Welcome to season 2019

It is my pleasure to welcome you all back to a big 2019 Season of Football.  To our new families, players, recruits and women footballers – welcome to the Sharks.
We have given our social media team a holiday and are now back ready to communicate all the important news that will help keep all our members, sponsors, players, parents and supporters informed.

We are now a 7 Team Club:

  • Seniors, Reserves – Division One
  • u19’s – To be confirmed
  • Inaugural Women’s Football Team – Division to be confirmed
  • 3 Netball Teams

Congratulations and a huge thank you to our coaches and administrators for all the work they have done so far to prepare these teams to hit the court/ track.  It does take the generosity of many people to make this happen each year and we encourage each and every individual to get involved at our Mighty Club in any area that you think you can help.  Don’t sit back and watch, come see how you can be a part of something special.

This season is the start of our new 3-year strategy.  We saw our ALL-IN strategy come to an end last year and many of the objectives in that strategy executed well.  It is something we should be incredibly proud of.  We had a chance to celebrate and make note of these wins at our presentation night.  As a club, this strategy document leads us well.

We will launch our new 3-year club strategy in the first few rounds at a luncheon.  Our committee looks forward to communicating this to us so that we can get our year started with a fresh focus and a clear direction for our club.  The strategy is entitled: ‘Mighty Sharks’ – something we want each of you to endeavour to strive to be and do.  Coming Soon.

We are a very proud club and one of the great strengths is the foundation we have built on – the sponsors and partners.  We welcome back Hoskins Premium Property People as our major sponsor once again.  John Hoskins and his team have not only been very generous with the but with their finances putting their money where their mouth is in believing in what we do in our community.  Thanks .

We have retained most of our current sponsors and are excited to introduce you all to some new sponsors that have come on board during the break.  We will announce these in the coming weeks as we officially sign these onboard.

The first 3 sponsors we’d like to welcome back again are:
Elephant & Co, Consolidated Energy & Business Fight Club.  We will profile these all for you and create a directory to allow you to support these businesses throughout 2019.  Thanks to all of these businesses for their ongoing support to our club.

** Attention Potential Partner / Sponsor **

If you are a business owner and are aligned with the Sharks, could we ask you to consider partnering our club as a sponsor?  We have multiple options to partner with us and your support would be amazing as we grow as a club.  Please call Jeremy Thomas 0409864910 or Colin Caulfield for more details.
If you aren’t a business owner but love our club.  We’d like you to support us by doing two things.  1.  Become a member – membership opportunities will be available next week online on our website.

The Park Orchards Football Netball Club recruiting strategy is focussed on the next 3+ years.
Our strong junior pathways resulted in a healthy, stable, local football group of players that are ready for senior football but will also take time to develop given the opportunity.  They will have the ability to play Premier League football in years to come which is our goal over the next 3 years, but we have made the decision to put some more experienced heads around this large group of local talent.  We have been strategic and very careful to handpick what we believe will enhance and support our long term strategy.  Starting with headhunting Dennis Armfield as our clubs mentor and senior playing coach.
He has immersed into our group magnificently and put standards in place that will develop our professionalism, prepare our young group for the future and improve them as men and footballers.  Dennis has proven already that he is just what the club was looking for The feedback from the list is amazing – they love him.

What will be most underrated at our club is the return of a few players that will give us huge improvement – Christian Feher, after travelling for two years.  He has been arguably the best trainer on the track preseason.  2017’s Best and Fairest – Michael return to health will be a huge plus where he only got to play 3 games for us last year.  The return of Joel Holewa to the club will aid our tall brigade, Josh Chapel was out for a lot of last year with a hand injury and a handful of guys that have decided to return to play footy for the Sharks again.
An ex-factor that clubs cant create is our developing u19’s every year that transition into senior footballers.  We know they’re talented, we just need to continue to work with them and provide opportunities for these guys when they put up their hand and chase this hard.

Outside of this, the strategy was to capture some talented guys working their way through VFL programs that will one day be ready to come and play full time for us.  When they are with us, they will lift the team, when they are playing VFL, they will be improving their football which gives the opportunity for others within our group to step up and have a go, as we know its important to get more games into our emerging players, without overloading them.  We’ve measured carefully and we have the right mix.

Here are a few players we can announce are joining us:

Kane Keppel (ex-Junior) and Mason Blakey are incredible leaders and will set a level of professionalism with Dennis when they play.  They are both Co-Vice Captains at Northern Blues – we welcome them to the club.

We want to welcome back to our club Tom Jacotine from Vermont – who is a very promising player who played his junior footy with the Sharks.  He will be a great addition with lightning speed and silky skills.

Alex Minoni is a senior footballer from Norwood Football Club who has been aligned with Coburg for the last 2 years.  We think he will add some class to our midfield and help develop some of our young mids who are coming on well.

We hope to have 6ft 11 giant Scott Houghton up and running early-mid season after recovering from some surgery.  He will be much-needed support for our up forward and give us huge presence after losing Gorringe and Fowkes.  Scott has expressed his desire to come to the Sharks and to mentor some of our after a distinguished career at division one level.

There will be a few other announcements to come but for now, we are excited for what the season ahead holds with our emerging talent and the new players that want to call the Shark Tank home.

1.  Practice Matches –

We are looking to have 2 practice matches, the first being v’s Healsville at Healsville on Saturday 16th March.  It will be the seniors, reserves and women’s team.  The u19’s are seeking to fill this day also with a practice match – TBC.
The second practice match will likely be at home.  We will be hosting a team on Saturday the 23rd of March.

2. Inaugural Women’s Round One & Celebration

More details will be given out for this but please put in your calendar to attend and support our girls round 1 game.  The hard work has been done, we have great numbers and we will gather together to support and celebrate post the game day.  Come and join us.

3.  Round One

Our season opener will be huge v Upper Ferntree Gully on the 6th April at Domeney Reserve.  Come ready, bring the family and join in on what will hopefully be a huge start to our season.

4.  ANZAC DAY LUNCHEON – round 3 – 27th April

Invites and RSVP will be open in the next fortnight for this huge luncheon we are planning.  Please start to think about building a table of friends to join us for this memorable day.  We will have speakers, entertainment and our traditional ANZAC Day ceremony that I am sure will be a magnificent time to stop together as a community.

Club Communications

In a world where there are so many ways to communicate via our information can sometimes be lost in the sea of information.  What we have decided to do is work via two forms of communications to our whole community.

  1. Our facebook page – We are working on some exciting things for our 2019 Facebook page and will be releasing some exciting updates in the coming weeks!
  2. Your email address. (if this is not up to date, please send your new email to kait@elephantco.com.au)

All newsletters, announcements, profiles and weekly reports will be communicated via our facebook page – join up now and engage with our news and keep things positive. https://www.facebook.com/ParkOrchardsFC/

There is so much more to share with you all but for now, we will keep the communications coming each week.  Please look out for the opportunity to join up as a member and sponsor a player.

Thanks for your ongoing support and we look forward to sharing our new 3-year strategy with you

Go the Mighty Sharks
