The Park Orchards Football Netball Club recruiting strategy is focussed on the next 3+ years.
Our strong junior pathways resulted in a healthy, stable, local football group of players that are ready for senior football but will also take time to develop given the opportunity. They will have the ability to play Premier League football in years to come which is our goal over the next 3 years, but we have made the decision to put some more experienced heads around this large group of local talent. We have been strategic and very careful to handpick what we believe will enhance and support our long term strategy. Starting with headhunting Dennis Armfield as our clubs mentor and senior playing coach.
He has immersed into our group magnificently and put standards in place that will develop our professionalism, prepare our young group for the future and improve them as men and footballers. Dennis has proven already that he is just what the club was looking for The feedback from the list is amazing – they love him.
What will be most underrated at our club is the return of a few players that will give us huge improvement – Christian Feher, after travelling for two years. He has been arguably the best trainer on the track preseason. 2017’s Best and Fairest – Michael return to health will be a huge plus where he only got to play 3 games for us last year. The return of Joel Holewa to the club will aid our tall brigade, Josh Chapel was out for a lot of last year with a hand injury and a handful of guys that have decided to return to play footy for the Sharks again.
An ex-factor that clubs cant create is our developing u19’s every year that transition into senior footballers. We know they’re talented, we just need to continue to work with them and provide opportunities for these guys when they put up their hand and chase this hard.
Outside of this, the strategy was to capture some talented guys working their way through VFL programs that will one day be ready to come and play full time for us. When they are with us, they will lift the team, when they are playing VFL, they will be improving their football which gives the opportunity for others within our group to step up and have a go, as we know its important to get more games into our emerging players, without overloading them. We’ve measured carefully and we have the right mix.
Here are a few players we can announce are joining us:
Kane Keppel (ex-Junior) and Mason Blakey are incredible leaders and will set a level of professionalism with Dennis when they play. They are both Co-Vice Captains at Northern Blues – we welcome them to the club.
We want to welcome back to our club Tom Jacotine from Vermont – who is a very promising player who played his junior footy with the Sharks. He will be a great addition with lightning speed and silky skills.
Alex Minoni is a senior footballer from Norwood Football Club who has been aligned with Coburg for the last 2 years. We think he will add some class to our midfield and help develop some of our young mids who are coming on well.
We hope to have 6ft 11 giant Scott Houghton up and running early-mid season after recovering from some surgery. He will be much-needed support for our up forward and give us huge presence after losing Gorringe and Fowkes. Scott has expressed his desire to come to the Sharks and to mentor some of our after a distinguished career at division one level.
There will be a few other announcements to come but for now, we are excited for what the season ahead holds with our emerging talent and the new players that want to call the Shark Tank home.
